"I know the human being and fish can coexist peacefully"
The Biology department at Putney High School is lively and successful. We have three modern labs within the science block in which we carry out a wide range of practical work, including traditional dissections, modern gel electrophoresis and polymerase chain reaction techniques. All labs are equipped with interactive smart-boards and the use of visual techniques to improve learning is inherent in our teaching, from microscopy to molecular animations.
GCSE
We follow the OCR 21st Century Science specification, with all pupils taking a separate GCSE in Biology.
AS and A Level
We take the OCR AS/A level GCE. Students spend five days on ecology fieldwork during a residential fieldtrip in Year 13. Currently, we go to the FSC centre in Slapton Ley, Devon. Biology continues to be a popular choice at AS and A2, and many of our students go on to study related courses at university, including medicine.
