Book of the WeekShortlisted for the Booktrust Teenage Prize in 2010 Halo by Zizou Corder is an exciting adventure set in Ancient Greece, with interesting characters, a female hero and plenty of action.

 

In ancient Greece, a human baby is washed ashore in a cradle and is adopted and brought up by a family of centaurs.

 

As an adolescent, Halo is dragged from the love and security of her unconventional upbringing and sold as a slave. By disguising herself as a boy she escapes but only to find herself at the mercy of the fearsome Spartan warriors. As violence and war surround her on all sides, Halo's turbulent life is complicated further by her quest to discover her true identity.

 

Suitable for 10+ years and available in both Senior and Junior Department libraries.
