Johnson Beharry VC visits Putney. [15.10.11]

Johnson Beharry VC spoke to the Sixth Form as part of a General Studies talk on the Victoria Cross.  They heard the history of the medal since its introduction in 1856 by Queen Victoria to honour acts of valour during the Crimean War. One of the two receipients of the VC in the 21st century, Lance Corporal Johnson Beharry of the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment received his medal for twice saving members of his unit during ambushes in Iraq. A lively Q&A session followed and the girls were given the opportunity to hold and examine his medals.
