Lytton House girls get Olympic gold fever

ImageThere was a huge buzz of excitement this week when Sarah Webb, one of the ‘three blondes in a boat’ gold medallists at the Beijing Olympics brought in not only one, but two gold Olympic medals. All the girls in the junior department had the opportunity to touch the medals. Sarah is a friend of one of our girls, Claudie (pictured with Sarah, left), and it was Claudie who asked Sarah to come and visit our school.

The girls sat enthralled as Sarah explained how they prepared for their races in their Yingling boat and said that winning a gold medal and standing on the rostrum as the National Anthem played was the “coolest thing ever”.

Sarah said that her inspiration had been a visit to her school by the Olympic gold decathlete, Daley Thompson, when she was just six years old. After hearing him speak she vowed to one day win a gold medal for herself.

Let’s hope that our girls are as equally inspired and that one day someone from the junior department will go for gold at the Olympics!
