Putney Ideas Exchange

George Alagiah talks to students about broadcast journalismPutney Ideas Exchange: discussions aiming to excite, engage and interest girls at Putney High School. As part of our Gifted and Talented Programme available to ALL our girls, this club meets weekly on either a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday lunchtime or after school depending upon the speaker availability.  A wide variety of speakers are invited so that the girls are given opportunities to become aware of and develop ideas from outside the curriculum.  The girls are given an opportunity to discuss the issue raised with the speaker.

So far speakers have included:

  • Professor Frank Close:   "Human Space Exploration, Science Fiction or Science Fact?"
  • Elizabeth Cowling Curator & Art Historian: Matisse/Picasso
  • Sophie Raworth (Old Girl): Life as a Journalist
  • Learning from History: Vice Admiral (retd) Mike Gretton Commander of the Invincible during the Falklands War
  • Dr Wallport (Director of Wellcome Trust): Identity and Identification
  • George Alagiah - broadcast journalism at home and abroad

We welcome any offers to speak, including from parents or supporters of the school.
