Putney girls' swimming success

Swimming successYear 9 student Katie Mackenzie represented Surrey at the Inter County Swimming Championships. Surrey is in the top division in this competition and a total of 39 county teams from England, Scotland and Wales took part in the Sheffield event.

Katie came 4th in her age group in her individual event (100m breaststroke). She was also a member of the Surrey medley relay team which won gold in their age group. This was a tremendous achievement for Surrey (and Katie) in an event often dominated by the big Yorkshire and Lancashire teams.

Her next big events are the Surrey Championships in February and the Regional Championships in May. Katie also hopes to compete in the National championships in July for a third successive year.

Meanwhile, Year 10 student Genie Rendell’s success at the Nationals has earned her a place in the top performance squad, training at Crystal Palace most mornings at 5.30am. Genie leaves home at 4:50am for the 90-minute sessions. On some evenings she returns to Crystal Palace at 5:30pm, as well as continuing to train with her club, Wandsworth.

Genie will join Katie in competing at the Leeds Open meet in December, the first opportunity to qualify for next year’s National Competition.
