Putney took victory at the Indoor Rowing Championship at Oxford Brookes University where 52 girls from Putney competed against schools and rowing clubs from across the South of England.
Lauren McCann of Year 11 took home three gold medals, winning two individual events and one team event.
The girls competed on indoor rowing machines. One team did especially well. Alice Meakes, Eleanor Conradie, Beatrice Trevor and Amy Ratcliffe won silver in the Junior 16 4K race. Not only that, each of them also won an individual race too.
Overall, Putney brought home six gold, six silver and five bronze medals.
Rowing Coach, Peter Brewer said, ‘It was the epitome of team victory. Medals were won by year 10 and year 11 rowers - and the number of year 7 – 9 girls who attended the event meant we were able to achieve enough points to be overall winners.’
Putney was named ‘Victor Ludorum’, winner of the games. The event is a warm up for the National Junior Indoor Rowing Championship in North London in March, where Putney will be defending its title.
