The Junior School celebrated harvest with some senior citizens from a day centre in Putney. Everyone in Lytton and Garden House participated. Sophie Slight sung a solo in “The Cuckoo’s Gone Away To Africa”, a song that Years 3 and 4 sing about a sensible bird who flees the shores of Britain to go to a warmer place at this time of year. ‘Harvest Moon’ was sung by the choir to celebrate the shining moon signalling the time to gather and share our crops; Bella Cutler sang a brilliant solo at the beginning of this song. The Harvest celebration ended with the light and bouncy song, “Paint Box”. All the girls thoroughly enjoyed our harvest assembly.
After the songs Year 6 had the chance to talk to the senior citizens, many had interesting stories to tell including stories for World War II. The Year 6 girls are learning about this period and it was great for them to hear some real stories. Overall the harvest festival was thoroughly enjoyed by both the girls and visitors.
