Welcome to Putney High School Rowing page

LATEST NEWS:

Image Great racing at the Ball Cup Regatta on Sunday (11th May). Everyone who competed came away with a medal: Silver for Lucy Edwards in the girls' singles; bronze for the Year 8 quad of Tiggy Astle, Alice Meakes, Eleanor Conradie and Sophie Allan, ably coxed by Lizzie Pates who kept them going to snatch a medal position on the very last stroke. Meanwhile Fiona Parker, having dried off after her singles race, braved the afternoon heat of Dorney Lake to cox Year 7 - Iona Casley, Anna Witherow, Georgie Tall and Sabrine Carpio - to a gold medal in their quad.

Well done girls!

Congratulations to the girls of Year 9 who beat Emanuel School and Lady Eleanor Holles School convincingly at Hammersmith rowing regatta on Saturday to win Girls Junior Under 14 Octuple Sculls.

Well done too, to the Year 10 quad who beat rivals from the American School.

Someone always has to race the hot favourite in the first round and unfortunately that was Lucy Edwards on Saturday in the single sculls. The same girl beat Jess Foulds in the final by two and a half boat lengths. Commiserations to Lucy and Jess, our two brave single scullers, undoubtedly the most nerve-racking of the rowing boats for crew and coach. Better luck next time!

The Year 11 Four rowed a sparkling first minute against Emanuel and led the race. They were beaten by a stronger crew but held their technique together well.

Well done to all girls in the rowing team!

Image138 girls took part in the House rowing competition on after Half Term. It was a neck and neck contest right up til the afternoon, but Bronte clinched it with a big Year 11 effort. The photo (left) shows our intrepid staff doing their bit for the cause.

The rowing club took part in the southern schools indoor rowing championship in February and came away with an impressive range of medals, nearly achieving the clean sweep in the team events for girls with golds for our Year 7, 8 , 9 and 11 teams and silver for the Year 10 and sixth form teams. As well as this we achieved individual silvers for Beth Reynolds Year 7, Sophie Allan Year 8 and Lucy Edwards Year 10.
On the school ergos we continue to compete in the national on-line league. Our Year 9 10 and 11 teams have maintained their medal winning positions and the Year 8s are within a whisker of getting there too, currently lying 4th overall after 4 rounds with two to go. All of which stands us in good stead for the National Indoor Competition on March 5th.
