Sarah Polak wrote an excellent script for her GCSE group last April, so with great confidence Chris Haddock, Director of Drama asked her to write a play for the Year 12 production.
Several months later, Daphne was the result. Inspired by a novel about Daphne Du Maurier by Justine Picardie, Sarah created a compelling and multi layered play set in three different time periods. In 1940, we see scenes from Rebecca; in 1957, some of the drama of Daphne’s own life; while in the present day, another somewhat mismatched couple makes for a third set of interwoven parallels.
It all adds up to a fascinating, moving and thought provoking piece of theatre.
Well done to all involved, especially Sarah!
