A welcome from the Head Girls:'Whether it’s Languages, Sciences or Critical Thinking, you’ll be assured of always knowing that you’ve learnt something new and interesting each day.'
'Between the four of us we have taken part in a huge variety of sports teams, choirs, contributing to our school newspaper ‘Purple’, Young Enterprise, poetry festivals and maths tutoring for younger girls. There are so many activities on offer which means that everyone can find something to make their day a little less routine.'
'Extra classes are offered in the subject you decide you want to continue at university level and tutors here are always willing to guide pupils through any problems and ensure that we all fulfil our potential.'
'We are enthusiastic, positive and proud of our school and it doesn’t get much better than that!'
Listening to students talk so positively about their Sixth Form makes me feel proud to be associated with this part of the school - where our main aim is to enable every student to flourish in her own way, through providing a vibrant and stimulating environment. It is a great delight to guide, support and get to know our Sixth Formers and I am constantly learning from their own enormous range of abilities.
The strong foundations of pastoral care at Putney arise from an expert team of tutors who build supportive relationships with students to guide them and discuss how best they can learn, thrive and enjoy life.
Through a wide-ranging lecture and talks programme, students discover an arena in which to learn about and discuss a wide range of political, health and personal issues. Skills based workshops encourage them to develop many talents from presentation skills, networking to learning the Haka!
A weekly Sixth Form Council provides an excellent opportunity for students to air their views and suggest improvements to the life of the Sixth Form. Nearly all Sixth Formers also take on positions of responsibility within the school and develop their leadership and management skills in this way. There are elections for Prefects and Head Girls and Year 12 run the Christmas Fair and Year 13, the Christmas Panto. The plethora of extra-curricular activities available throughout the school is also open to, and often run by, Sixth Formers.
All students from Putney High go on to Higher Education and providing excellent support and guidance on this is one of our top priorities. We hold regular meetings for students and parents to guide everyone through the process and we have a good range of speakers from a number of universities, to which we also arrange many visits. Careers Fairs and the GDST’s Minerva programme give students the chance to continue receiving support and guidance long after they have left school.
New students joining us for the Sixth Form contribute greatly to the diversity and vibrancy of the Common Room and specialist Sixth Form area. There is a special programme for new girls at the start of the year and a Sixth Form team-building day in September.
Our Sixth Form is academically challenging as well as fun – it’s hard work as well as inspirational. It is not always easy, but our dedicated Sixth Form team has created a structure where students feel supported and can develop the skills and friendships to give them the best possible foundations.
We hope that this website gives you a flavour of our Sixth Form. However, if you are interested in joining us, please do come and visit. Open Days are held in October but you are very welcome to contact Ms White to arrange a visit through calling 020 8788 4886 or emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
