Senior Department The Senior Department promises a stimulating environment where each girl will thrive. The broad and balanced curriculum is complemented by a rich range of Extension Activities and trips.
Girls in Year 7 are not set for any subject so they have an equal opportunity to develop regardless of material covered at Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 in different schools. Girls are taught in groups smaller than form groups for approximately 40% of the timetable (rising to over 50% in Year 8 and 75% in Year 9) so they can have more individual attention, can use specialist facilities and can integrate immediately with a wide number of girls from other forms.
They are taught in even smaller groups to allow them to use specialist technology facilities and bilingual girls are given excellent support from the Languages Department.
Girls in Year 8 are set for Mathematics and French and girls in Year 9 are set for Mathematics, French and Latin.
All girls follow programmes of study based on a considerably developed National Curriculum.
For full details of subject choices please download the Annual Information Booklet (link to prospectus page).
Girls in Years 10 and 11 study core subjects and are set for Mathematics and Science. Girls have a free choice of four additional GCSE subjects, although they must choose at least one modern language.
All girls work towards GCSEs in the separate sciences. The final decision on whether to take separate sciences or continue towards additional science (previously know as dual award science) is made after the Year 10 summer examination.
For full details of subject choices please contact us for a hard copy to be sent to you.
Sixth FormStudents who choose to join our Sixth Form, having taken GCSEs elsewhere, combine with students from our Senior Department to create a stimulating environment. If girls begin to show a particular talent in certain subjects in January of Year 12, they are encourages to try for Oxbridge and attend tutorials with relevant subject staff.
