PUTNEY GIRLS CLOSING THE GENDER GAP AS SCIENCE AND MATHS GCSE GRADES SOAR

Putney High School is celebrating continued success today with girls achieving fantastic results in their GCSEs as well as challenging gender perceptions - with exceptional success in Mathematics and Sciences.

Over half of Putney girls achieved nine or more As and A*s  with 15 girls achieving 11 As and A*s. They also continue to buck the national trend that has seen numbers of students choosing Mathematics, Sciences and Modern Languages decline – subjects which remain popular GCSE choices with girls at Putney.

74% of results for Biology, Chemistry and Physics (separate sciences) were graded at A* and 98% of results were graded at either A* or A. In Mathematics, 83% of results were awarded an A* or A grade and in Statistics 100% of pupils achieved an A* or A grade.

Headmistress, Dr Denise Lodge, said today: “These results reflect fantastically upon the quality of the teaching staff at the school and upon the commitment and enthusiasm of the girls here today. I am extremely proud of them. A-Level students were awarded their best ever results last week and, combined with this great success at GCSE level, we are all looking forward to next term and the challenges and adventures for the year ahead.”
