Junior Department girls learn about recycling during Environment WeekWe value our involvement in the local community and all girls are encouraged to organise events to raise money for a variety of charities through their houses. Forms are encouraged to work together imaginatively to provide Christmas boxes for local families and harvest gifts for local elderly people, who we also welcome to our biennial parties organised by both teachers and girls.
Putney High School combines works with Wandsworth Sports Development Team, the British Gymnastics Association and Surrey Netball to integrate with other South West London schools. And through involving all primary schools in the gym, there have been more Wandsworth Schools representing London at the National School Championships in all categories – boys, girls and mixed. Sixth Form girls also visit local school to coach gymnastics.
For several years running Putney girls have been given awards by Wandsworth for the support that the school gives to their sporting events such as netball, football and volleyball. We have been responsible, along with Wandsworth Sports Development, for bringing all the independent and maintained schools into the Wandsworth Borough Sports system - so increasing the number of schools participating from 6 to 13.
Putney High School’s chosen House Charities receive over £10,000 per annum from the school. The girls raise a further £2000 (approx) for other charities such as The Poppy Appeal and Breast Cancer Awareness.
Through promoting volunteering with our Sixth Form, in association with Wandsworth Volunteer Bureau and the Millennium Volunteer Scheme, our Sixth Formers are contributing over 150 hours a week to local projects. Over 80% of our Year 12s are registered with Millennium Volunteers.
