Putney Old Girls were reunited at the weekend at the annual school reunion. After a very enjoyable lunch they toured the school and looked at the archives on display in the Library. The new Head Girl team, led by Olivia Archibald, were delighted to escort groups around the school.
Amongst the Old Girls was Freda Buggé (née Johnson), who had an interesting tale to tell:
She and Elizabeth Stone came to the senior school in the early 1950s, Elizabeth joining the staff, teaching English, and Freda, aged 11, joining Upper III B. Their teacher/pupil relationship continued throughout the time they spent at PHS, but by 1958 both had left, Elizabeth (by then Mrs. Dixon) to start her family, and Freda to progress to college and a career. Much to their amazement they met again in 2002 when each was reading for a Master's degree at the University of Reading. It took several weeks to recognize each other, after which they became firm friends during their part-time course over five years. They graduated in December 2007, each with an MA in Medieval Studies, and feel it surely must be a record for a former teacher and former pupil to achieve higher degrees together fifty years on from their days at PHS!"
They are pictured here (Freda on the left), on a recent trip to Norwich Study Centre.
